Barry Frydlender in Art in America

January 12, 2010

The January issue of Art in America features an in-depth article on the international rise of Israeli artists, including Andrea Meislin Gallery artist, Barry Frydlender.

Author Lilly Wei remarks how, “Israel, a nation the size of New Jersey, has changed dramatically since its inception in 1948.”  In examining the artists working in Israel today, Wei divides them into a first generation and a second generation.  She focuses on Frydlender and Michal Rovner as the two artists from that earlier group to achieve international prominence.  Frydlender explains that he”practice[s] photography as someone else practices tai chi or Islam, so it is not important where I work, although place does have an enormous effect.”

To read all of this fascinating article, get the January issue of Art in America.  Stay tuned in February as Wei examines the second wave of artists.
