Judith Fox: I Still Do…Loving and Living with Alzheimer’s

November 19, 2009

Judith Fox’s I Still Do…Loving and Living with Alzheimer’s will open at Andrea Meislin Gallery on January 9, 2010.  Above are a few images from Judith’s show, which chronicles the daily hardships facing Dr. Edmund Ackell, her husband.  Ackell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1998, a moment in which Fox realized that “the future, as we had planned it, wasn’t going to happen.”

Judith’s portraits are at once simple and powerful, and when coupled with her prose present an evocative and moving account.  Her work poignantly details the human ability to adapt, cope, and adjust in the face of a hardship that is unrelenting, unpredictable – and perhaps most of all – unfair.

Judith was interviewed about her work on Terry Gross’ Fresh Air (NPR), and also received a mention in Elle Magazine (below).

Congratulations Judith, and we look forward to seeing you in January!

Fortunately there is research going on (like stem cells) that may one day serve the cure this disease.
